Late push helps Findlay Prep put away Huber Heights Wayne [Post & Video]

KETTERING, Ohio — As night one of the 11th-annual Flyin’ to the Hoop came to a close, it became clear why Findlay Prep is one of the top-ranked teams in the country. Kansas-commit Kelly Oubre finished with 14 points and eight rebounds as the Pilots used a late 19-6 run to put away a talented Huber Heights Wayne team on Friday night.

Despite the loss, three Warriors finished in double figures, including Ahmad Wagner and D’Mitrik Trice who led Wayne in scoring on the night with 11 each.

Early on, Wayne was giving the Pilots everything they had and more, with Warriors forward Xeyrius Williams doing most of the damage in the first half. Williams had all 10 of his points in the opening two quarters, including making both of his shots from beyond the arc.

Midway through the second, the score was tied at 20 but a late 10-2 push by Findlay Prep gave them an eight-point cushion going into the break. Oubre nearly had a double-double at halftime, scoring 10 points and grabbing seven rebounds in the first 16 minutes.

The lead would not last long however for the Pilots, as a 6-0 run sparked by Wagner cut the lead to just two at 35-33 midway through the third. Just as Williams was the spark plug in the first half, Wagner was the key cog in the second, scoring 10 of his 11 during the final two quarters.

After the lead was cut to two, 2016 F Justin Jackson helped lead the charge late in the frame, including this buzzer-beater at the end of the quarter, making the score 39-33 after three.

The beginning of fourth quarter would be much of the same, as Oubre, Horace Spencer III, and Craig Victor started to simply flex their muscles. Spencer III was a difference-maker in the paint, using his 6-foot-8 frame to grab seven rebounds and block two shots to go along with his nine points.
